rui-chafes-candura

From Ruin - Rui Chafes & Candura - From Ruin is a storm of iron and wind ravaging an ice-covered plateau. The white fire turns back the corrosion that invades the smooth surface of the most vulnerable bodies: we move backwards until we are luminous as newborn babies. We wait expectantly for an end equal to a beginning. In the tense immobility of this suspended time, only the lacerated remains of the icy wind remain. No shelter, just sky.

England's Hidden Reverse by David Keenan - Published by Strange Attractor - Based on hundreds of hours of interviews with members of Coil, Nurse With Wound and Current 93 as well as contemporaries, friends and associates, EHR illuminates a shadowy English underground scene whose work accented peculiarities of Englishness through the links and affinities they forged with earlier generations of the island’s marginals and outsiders, such as playwright Joe Orton, writers like death decadent Eric, Count Stenbock, ecstatic mystic novelist Arthur Machen and occult figures like Austin Osman Spare and Aleister Crowley.

Ah wanna tell ya ’bout a girlYou know, she lives in room twenty-nineWhy, why? That’s the one right up top a mineI start to cry, I start to cry
Oh, I hear her walkingWalking barefoot cross the floorboardsAll through this lonesome nightI hear her crying tooHot-tears come splashing downLeaking through the cracksDown upon my faceI catch ’em in my mouthCatch ’em in my mouthCatch ’em in my mouthI catch ’em in my mouthWalk and cry, walk and cryWalk and cry, I’ll walk and cry
From her to eternityFrom her to eternityFrom her to eternity
I read her diary on her sheetsScrutinizing every little bit of dirtTore out a page and stuffed it inside my shirtI fled outta the windowAnd shinning it down the vineOutta her nightmareAnd back into mineMine, oh mine
From her to eternityFrom her to eternityCry, cry, cryCry, cry, cry
She’s wearing those blue stockings, I betAnd standing like this with my ear to the ceilingListen I know it must sound absurdBut I can hear the most melancholy sound I ever heardWalk and cry, walk and cryKneel and cry, kneel and cry
From her to eternityFrom her to eternity
Oh tell me why?Oh tell me why? Why? Why? Why?Oh tell me why?Don’t tell me a lieWhy the ceiling still shakes? Shake, shake, shakeAnd all the fixtures turn to serpents and snakes? This desire to possess her is a woundAnd it’s nagging at me like a shrewBut I know, that to possess herIs, therefore, not to desire her
Oh, then that little girl would just have to go, goFrom her to eternityOh, go, go, goFrom her to eternity (x 10)

sound-of-metal-criterion

Sound of Metal - The Criterion Collection 2020 - In Sound of Metal, a tale of sound, fury, and self-discovery, Riz Ahmed delivers an intensely committed performance as the volatile Ruben, who has found new purpose as a drummer in a noise-metal duo, playing blistering live shows with his singer girlfriend, Lou (Olivia Cooke). When Ruben suddenly loses much of his hearing, he is launched on a profound odyssey—through denial, anger, grief, and, gradually, acceptance—as he comes to understand what it means to live as a deaf person and to discover deafness as not a disability but a rich culture and community. Through stunningly immersive, Academy Award–winning sound design, director Darius Marder invites us to experience the world as Ruben does, capturing a sonic spectrum in which silence comes in a thousand shades.

This monologue appears at the beginning of the ‘Dead Flag Blues’, a track taken from the Godspeed You Black Emperor! 1997 debut album F#A#∞; it comes from ‘incomplete movie about jail’, an unfinished film that Efrim Menuck wrote and has been working on for the last five years.
The car’s on fire and there’s no driver at the wheeland the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicidesand a dark wind blows the government is corruptand we’re on so many drugswith the radio on and the curtains drawn
we’re trapped in the belly of this horrible machineand the machine is bleeding to death
the sun has fallen downand the billboards are all leeringand the flags are all dead at the top of their poles
it went like this:the buildings tumbled in on themselvesmothers clutching babies picked through the rubbleand pulled out their hair
the skyline was beautiful on fireall twisted metal stretching upwardseverything washed in a thin orange haze
I said: “kiss me, you’re beautiful – these are truly the last days”
you grabbed my hand and we fell into itlike a daydream or a fever
we woke up one morning and fell a little further down – for sure it’s the valley of death
I open up my walletand it’s full of blood.
