INTERVIEW: MMMΔ

1. How was your introduction to music? does it run in the family?

It did not run in the immediate family no. Perhaps in the greater family. Difficult to say (or better remember) how our introduction to music was. It was perhaps always there.

2. Music take us back in time. Can you instantly remember one of the oldest memories in your life which is associated with music? which artist or song?

This music on a small Phillips turntable tucked inside a cupboard, taken from this amazing album.

3. Name one artist or band, living or dead, that influenced your music-making the most?

Iannis Xenakis.

4. Which is the one venue or place on earth you'd like to play? if you’d have complete freedom and budget how would you setup your dream live performance? your choice of guest musicians? which specific media involved (art installations, performance, film,...) ?

A mountainside facing another mountainside or alternatively a large canyon with unlimited supply of subwoofers.

5. What is your favourite instrument of choice or piece of studio equipment? and why?

The custom instruments that our ex-member Coti K. built for us, a custom made cello and a custom made oscillator controller, because they are one of a kind and they work.

6. Any artist or album that really blew you away in 2020?

Kali Malone - Studies for Organ.

7. How’s the music scene in Athens? do you hang out with other like-minded musicians? any interesting acts you can recommend?

Before the pandemic we had some chances to get involved with the scene. Now it is impossible. Add to this the fact that we are kind of introverted and secluded personalities. So we are probably missing out on the whole Athens scene which is probably very active and kicking.

8. What are your views on the recent rise of women in experimental music? artists such as Kali Malone, Lingua Ignota or Moor Mother...any favourite?

We totally support the abolition of patriarchy in music as well as the whole of society. Favourite: Kali Malone.

9. What is your opinion on streaming platforms vs the physical record experience? do you buy records?

The concept of non-material formats is very appealing. The way these formats are commercially exploited is totally un-appealing. Physical record experience includes a small ceremony (opening, smelling, turning on the sound equipment etc.) which brings us back to our youth. So it would be a very biased answer if we said we prefer physical over digital.

10. How did the Covid-19 pandemic impacted your life personally and how was it in creative terms and output? I guess you became more active as a visual artist than a musician?

On a personal level it ranged from simply ok to really bad, on a creative level it was (and still is really as in Greece and specially in Athens we are now going through a terrible third Covid-19 wave) really good. We stayed active on the musical level mostly as we focused on our upcoming release “L’ âge de l’ absolutisme”.
