Probably my favourite death metal album of the 90's. I knew little of Incantation so this was bought on artwork alone. It proposed some hellish world akin to Carcass. The guy at the record shop couldn't play the record because of a broken needle. Got this together with Bal-Sagoth's 'A Black Moon Broods Over Lemuria'... they are still two of my all time favourite albums.

Strid means "Battle" in Norwegian. A pioneer of 'depressive' black metal, with 'End of Life' regarded as the earliest recording of the sub-style. Espen Andersen aka STORM was the band's orginal vocalist, bass and keyboard player (RIP 2001) and judging by the use of them instruments here, a purveyor of the most identifiable depressive black metal style musings (slow, foreboding), this band could have gone legend. Instead, due to a very limited output, they have been mostly forgotten.
